Today, I learned a few things:
- We live very, very close to a very, very large oil refinery. It looks like a small city filled with enormous tanks and smokestacks instead of houses.
- Ring mandrels and anvils are not easy things to come by. However, those pendulums people use in surveying land are a dime a dozen (okay, at the current exchange rate, it’s more like $1.50 each).
- Do not play Monopoly with Christian. He’s even grumpier losing at it than he was losing at Risk.
- Somewhere behind some drawers in our kitchen there exists a box with some wires and a light that made a scary alarm sound today (still don’t know what it’s for or what it means).
- Our fabulous local bakery (that makes practically perfect bagels) is being remodeled. The owner doesn’t like to put up notices about these things or give any kind of warning whatsoever, so we still have no idea when it will reopen.
- Just because waffles in America all tastes the same, doesn’t mean a waffle in China will taste like a waffle.
- I don’t like it when people stick their fingers in my ears!
